From 17 to 19 April 2026, the city of Trieste hosted OberMUN 2026, a Model United Nations conference bringing together young people from across Europe on the basis of the motto „Our Legacy in the Making“.
One of our students, reflecting on this outstanding event, concludes: Participating in OberMUN was an educational experience that taught me to confront and discuss complex, global issues with other students while strengthening my critical thinking and communication. It was an experience that showed me how much young people can achieve through dialogue and partnership. During the UNESCO simulation sessions, we discussed topics such as “The use of Technology for Historic Preservation” and “Balancing Academic Freedom while Preventing false Historical Claims” in a formal and democratic manner. Representing the country of the Democratic Republic of Congo taught me to think beyond my own opinions and consider the impact of political discussions. The debates were difficult but also incredibly rewarding, as they taught me the importance of listening to people and taking their points of view into perspective. But the absolute highlight for me, was the time connecting with other participants and building new friendships with people from all around the world. Looking back, OberMUN 2026 showed me that our world is shaped by the choices we make and reminded me that words truly matter.
