2024/25
On May 5 and 6, 2025, class 2AHITN stepped into the spotlight as Young Reporters at the Mayors’ Conference, held in Vienna’s City Hall, titled Just Transition – Action for a Sustainable Future. The City of Vienna is a lead partner in the event, which takes place annually in one of the cities of the European Cities Network, and SZU is one of Vienna’s content & networking partners in this initiative.
The SZU students listened to short, thought-provoking ‘spark talks’, joined interactive workshops, and interviewed key voices on the topics of climate change, biodiversity loss, the energy crisis, security, poverty, leadership, and democratic participation. Afterwards they wrote about their experiences at the conference and expressed their opinions in articles, which will be used by the organisers as part of their communications to reach young people.
Among the changemakers were Jürgen Czernohorszky (Executive City Councillor for Climate, Environment, Democracy and Personnel, City of Vienna), Helfried Carl (Founder, European Capital of Democracy) and Mathieu Mori (Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, Council of Europe).
The students’ task was to represent their generation, which they fulfilled with curiosity, courage and style.
