Women and Technology – the Perfect Match

2022/23

On 11 May 2023 several female pupils from SZU’s department of technology went to an event about promoting women in the technology sector, hosted by the telecommunications company A1.

We had a brilliant opportunity to meet successful women in this sector. After some networking with coffee and snacks, there were various panel discussions with women on stage, who encouraged the audience to leave their comfort zone and have the confidence to assert themselves in this male domain. They stressed the fact that women with technical qualifications should feel just as valid as men with the same technical training and not let any discrimination or obstacles get in their way of achieving their career aims. Agile Founder and Expert on Digital Business Fränzi Kühne, STEM educational expert Verena Pausder , A1 CFO Sonja Wallner and Founder for Women Only Network Nicole Adler gave excellent talks in which they told us among many other things about the everyday struggles of being a girl in a HTL and of being a woman in a technical role at a company. Although these role models did not hold back on the downsides of being a woman in technology, they were also keen to state the positives and opportunities and painted a picture of a bright future the audience could look forward to.
Companies need diversity for success. They need people with different mindsets. Therefore, they are focussing on how and where they can find and promote talent. We all left the event confident that we can be the female STEM CHANGEMAKERS of the future.
